In 2019, My best friend, Stone Mountain Dartt, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Pancreas with metastasis to the liver and lymph nodes.
When this disease is found, it is normally very far progressed and only manageable treatment is offered as there is no cure. During our 30 months from diagnosis to Stone’s passing, we saw the most incredible care from a staff of nurses at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan, Georgia.
We are so thankful for the deep concern shared with us, as we became more of a family with these amazing people. They shared their hurts and fears in the medical world. Their deep compassion for the patients they serve. Their fear for the families who lose a loved one and how they grieve and find self-help and care. It became a goal for Stoney, and myself to find a way to bridge a gap of support for these nurses to help them as they help others through life’s most trying times.
We want to help ease their burdens at home, to encourage them to use their skills on the mission field and reduce financial burden from educational loans.
As we became friends with these nurses, and saw their heart beat and love for us, we had a desire to return the love with a mission formed to minister to the nurses. After the death of Stone Mountain, I realized that this mission goes deeper than the care for nurses, but also for the care of those suffering from the loss of a loved one. As I currently learn how to navigate through my own loss, I find such comfort in my faith in Jesus Christ.
I know that others don’t have that comfort or peace. I would like share my love for others and the incredible gift it is to be a personal caregiver, but also recognize that there are many resources available but they are not easily accessible. I want to change that.
The goal is to MOVE THE MOUNTAINS that stand in the way of people helping others. Whether it be financial struggle, hurt and despair, or lack of knowledge about how to provide the best care and treatment.
